Myanmar Earthquake Relief

On 28 March 2025, at 12:50 local time, Myanmar was struck by a 7.7-magnitude earthquake. The epicenter, located at a depth of 10 km, was approximately 16 km north-northwest of Sagaing City and 19 km northwest of Mandalay City, Myanmar’s second-largest city. Following the initial quake, Myanmar has experienced at least 13 aftershocks, ranging in magnitude from 4.3 to 6.7.

As of 30 March, the military government said the death toll had reached 1,700, with 3,400 individuals injured and over 300 people reported missing. The UN has stated that hospitals in the most severely affected regions of Myanmar are struggling to meet urgent medical needs. Additionally, some residents expressed concerns about the lack of government assistance and the inadequacy of rescue equipment for emergency work.

CEDAR’s partner, the Fullmoon Family Foundation (FMFF), has partnered with various local churches and Christian networks to carry out disaster relief work. CEDAR has decided to allocate US$73,000 (approximately HK$575,240) to support FMFF to provide emergency assistance to the victims.

PROJECT DETAILS:

  • Relief areas: Sagaing, Mandalay, Naypyidaw, Bago Region
  • Number of beneficiaries: 1,000 families
  • Water and food distribution (for around 10 days)
  • Distribution of other supplies: gas stoves, solar lamps, mosquito nets with frames, tarpaulins, First Aid materials, feminine hygiene packs

The ongoing civil war in Myanmar has brought immense suffering to the people. Sadly, even before the man-made disasters cease, the country now faces a new set of natural disasters. Let’s join together in prayer for the Lord’s protection over the people of Myanmar. May those who have managed to survive find His grace to persevere, holding onto the hope that only He can provide amid such suffering.

Please give and pray now.
