Impact Story

In the village of Ayeyarwaddy, 12-year-old Naw Lin Maw (Lin) diligently helps her sick mother to put food on the table. Lin’s father went missing six years ago, leaving her, her mother, and two younger siblings to fend for themselves. To survive, Lin wakes up at 5 a.m. every day to collect watergrass from the nearby lake and sell it for a small income.

Balancing family responsibilities and school is tough for Lin, yet no matter how busy or tired she is, she never gives up. She cherishes every opportunity to attend the Learning Space because she loves learning. More than that, she has found trusted mentors and friends there who support her and help her cope with life’s challenges. In this safe and nurturing environment, Lin feels fully known and truly loved.

‘I want to be happy, and I think studying at this Learning Space makes me happy. When I’m here, learning with my classmates, I forget all the hardships,’ Lin said gratefully.

Lin in our learning space.

The Learning Space not only supports Lin academically but also nurtures her emotionally and spiritually. Through Bible classes, life-skills workshops, and extra-curricular activities such as handicraft making, painting, and guitar playing, she is gaining valuable knowledge and skills. With the guidance and encouragement of her mentor, Lin has learned to manage her time, solve problems, and develop basic English skills. She is always eager to learn new things and apply them to improve her family’s life. Seeing Lin grow in confidence and ambition, her mother, too, feels a sense of relief and pride.

Lin has transformed from a burdened child into a resilient student with newfound aspirations. Her perseverance is not only shaping her own future but also inspiring her younger siblings and others in her community. She has shown how determination, coupled with attentive support, can lead to meaningful progress. Her story encourages her village to value education and pursue self-improvement, while also motivating FMFF to continue transforming the lives of vulnerable children with the love of Christ. May God’s precious gift of perseverance shine in all of us, just as it does in Lin.
