CEDAR Barefoot Walk ‘Care for the Disaster-stricken Poor’

Event Overview

The World Meteorological Organization has reported that 2023 is the hottest year on record. Alongside rising temperatures, other climate indicators such as atmospheric greenhouse gas concentrations, ocean heat content and acidification, sea levels, sea ice extent, and glacier mass balance have also reached unprecedented levels. For those of us living in Hong Kong, this may simply mean that our city feels hotter. However, for our neighbours in impoverished countries, the worsening climate leads to more frequent natural disasters and crop failures. It deepens their plight, pushing them further into extreme poverty and food insecurity. Would you be willing to spend an afternoon with us, experiencing the life of those threatened by the climate crisis through barefoot walking and a farming experience? We hope that by stepping into the shoes of poor farmers, we can cultivate a heart of compassion for our impoverished neighbours.

‘Care for the Disaster-stricken Poor’ Monthly Donation Campaign

In addition to participating in the Barefoot Walk, we encourage you to walk alongside the ‘Disaster-stricken Poor’ on a long-term basis. CEDAR and its partners have always cared for the ‘Disaster-stricken Poor’ in various regions. In addition to providing immediate relief after disasters, we also educate affected residents on disaster preparedness, offer training on cultivating climate-resilient crops, assist them in starting small businesses, and teach handicraft skills. These initiatives help them earn a better income and break free from poverty.

We sincerely invite you to support the ‘Care for the Disaster-stricken Poor’ Monthly Donation Campaign through regular donations. By doing so, you can take action to support those impacted by climate injustice, improving their lives and helping them experience God’s love.

Support disaster risk reduction work in 8 coastal villages in Bangladesh to reduce casualties caused by annual floods.

Provide agricultural training on cultivating ‘climate-tolerant crops’ to 60 Ethiopian farmers to enhance food security.

Support the establishment of community information systems in 6 highland rural areas in Thailand to manage natural resources and advocate for land rights.
